Tiwaz (ᛏ) is rune 17 of the 24 runes of the Elder Futhark, in Tyr's aett. Its name means tyr, the warrior.
Courage and justice. Stand for what is right, even at a personal cost. Leadership and a clear sense of purpose win the day.
Failure of nerve or a lost cause. Injustice, bad-faith conflict, or a fight that has lost its purpose. Check that you are acting for the right reasons.

Tiwaz is named for Tyr, the Norse god of law, oaths and single combat. The best known story about him tells how he placed his hand in the mouth of the wolf Fenrir as a pledge, and lost it when the gods broke faith. The rune is an arrow pointing up, and was said to be carved on weapons for luck in battle.
Tiwaz is about doing what is right when it costs you something. In a reading it may point to justice, a matter of honor, a competition, or a leader who has to accept a sacrifice. Reversed, it can show injustice, a failure of nerve, or energy spent in the wrong fight.
