ᛗ · sound “m” · Human being
Mannaz (ᛗ) is rune 20 of the 24 runes of the Elder Futhark, in Tyr's aett. Its name means human being.
The human being and your place among others. Cooperation, self-knowledge and a helpful community support you. Ask for help, and offer it.
Isolation, or being at odds with others. Self-deceit, rivalry or cynicism cut you off, and you may expect help without offering any.
You are one of many; cooperate.
Mannaz means human being, and English "man" in the older sense of mankind comes from the same root. The Old English rune poem calls a person a joy to their kin, yet adds that each will one day fail the other. The sign is drawn in several forms in the surviving inscriptions.
Mannaz turns attention to the self and to other people. In a reading it can show your own mind and abilities, a community you belong to, or a person who matters to the question. Reversed, it may point to isolation, or to conflict with the people around you.
