ᛁ · sound “i” · Ice
Isa (ᛁ) is rune 11 of the 24 runes of the Elder Futhark, in Heimdall's aett. Its name means ice.
Ice: a freeze, a pause or a standstill. Things are held in place, but the stillness keeps you clear-headed and lets you conserve your strength.
Isa looks the same turned upside down, so it has no reversed meaning. It is one of the nine runes that read the same either way up, and it is always read as ice.
Do not force a thaw; use the pause.
Isa is a single straight line, and its name means ice. It is the plainest rune of the Elder Futhark and stands for the sound i. Rune poems describe ice as bright, cold and treacherously slippery, beautiful to look at and dangerous to trust.
Isa is a rune of standing still: a freeze, a delay or a pause in which nothing moves. In a reading it may be a warning against pushing a stuck situation, or a reminder that stillness can preserve as well as block. It looks the same reversed, so it has no reversed reading here.
